Kyle grinned at Wally as they both peered at the small item the former held. “He’s dressed up like a bat,” Kyle said. “This can’t possibly the first time someone’s done this.”
Wally shook his head and edged away from him. “It’s your life, man. If you want to risk it for a joke, you can. If it was me, I’d take up a safer hobby. Like swimming with piranhas.”
“I’m sure it won’t be that bad,” Kyle said, trying to sound sure as he jingled the small object in his hand.
“Riiight,” Wally said, edging further away.
“And I’ll say I just wanted to see if it worked as well on him as it does on–”
A deep voice cut through Kyle’s laughing words. “Because I’m so well-known for my sense of humor.”
Two yelps were followed by a streak of red and one of green dashing down the hallway. Batman stepped out of the shadows and picked up what Kyle had dropped: a small silver crucifix.
Chuckling, Batman jingled it a few times and tucked it into his utility belt. He could torment them for *months* with this.
